Looking to Great Bedwyn Village over the railway bridge from the wharf bridge.
Great Bedwyn is no more than a large village. There was once a castle and a mint here and until the Reform Bill, 1832, returned 2 members to Parliament. There is a Stone Museum run by the Lloyd Family who were masons for the canal. Thomas Willis, a founder member of the Royal Society, interested in blood circulation and diabetes, was born here, 1621. Bedwyn is from bedwine, a saxon name for bindweed.
