Caen Hill Back Pumping Station
Rowde, Wiltshire KAC56.19

KandAC mile 56
Caen Hill Back Pumping Station on the south side of the canal just westward of Lower Foxhangers Bridge.
There is a new pump to return water used through the Caen Hill locks from below the bottom lock at Foxhangers to somewhere above the flight - perhaps into Fifteen Mile Pound?
The pump building is brick built in a modern style, completely acceptable as today's development of the canal as a working operation. In contrast with their awful maintenance efforts of only a few years ago, BWB do seem to get a lot of things right now.
The brickwork is stretcher bond, almost the only bonding used nowadays! The intakes from the canal are protected by grills.
