from the bridge you might catch a glimpse of the Somerset Hospital standing beside the A4, the Great West Road which is parallel the canal east of here. This hospital was founded by the Duchess of Somerset, 1694, enlarged 1775, plus later bits, accommodating 20 clergy and 30 lay widows.
