Sluice gear for a ground paddle. The iron loop in the foreground is
the pawl that sits in the pinion teeth to stop the paddle sliding down
when you've wound it up.

Lower end of the lock and the accompanying Heathy Close Bridge.
The overflow into the bywash that takes excess water round the lock to
flow away down the lower pound. The pile of sticks has been dragged
out of the settling tank.
There is a slot for stop planks, a stop groove, at the top end of the
lock.
Stop planks. The number 52 incised into the planks matches the lock
number, 52. The roman number IV seems to be a sequence number ordering
the planks for use.
