Little Bedwyn Footbridge
Little Bedwyn, Wiltshire KAC31.55

KandAC mile 31
Little Bedwyn Footbridge, and the 'classic' concrete railway footbridge that continues the path over the mainline to the village green.
The footbridge leads from the side road adjacent to the canal, over the canal and immediately over a precast concrete railway footbridge over the railway to the village on the north of the canal. The bridge connects the village divided by the canal.
The footbridge replaces an earlier, wider, swing bridge. Road traffic was interupted by the railway built in 1862, and is now taken across by a separate bridge, foot traffic being provided with the railway footbridge.
The bridge is an plate girder bridge on brick piers; 31 miles 55 chains from Reading.

Little Bedwyn Footbridge; plate girder and engineering brick.
The railway footbridge; precast concrete.
The original plan was for a lift bridge here, but a swing bridge was built. The present iron bridge was put in about 1847 when the railway was built.
