This is the first stone bridge (excepting Lady's Bridge) on the canal as you travel west. From here on bridges are mostly of Bath stone. The stone used by the builders was not always good stone; the canal company owned quarries of doubtful stone whose use cost the project dearly. Later repairs have used patches of bricks, both ordinary and blue engineering bricks. Some bridges are decidedly mottled.
