Murhill Quarry Wharf
Winsley, Wiltshire KAC68.02

KandAC mile 68
Boat Dundas Dawn at Murhill Wharf.
An incline tramroad brought stone down from Murhill Quarry to the canal; its slanting course can be seen if you look hard enough. The canal company opened the quarry in 1803 against the advice of John Rennie whose estimate for building the canal was serious exceeded, mostly because of the use of poor stone which the proprietors were insisting upon. The Bath stone from this quarry was poor.
