Pewsey Bridge, west face. Sturdy english bond brickwork.
Pewsey Bridge, west face. The parapet is built out level from the string course. Notice the placings for the two sets of stop gates.
The bridge from Pewsey Wharf side; boat Curlew tied up at the wharf.
There were stop gates built into this bridge, sets headed both ways. These were like lock gates, arranged to swing shut automatically by the flow of water which would happen if the canal broke its bank.
One of the stop gate positions (south side, west end).
The cast iron frame, set into the stonework, that held the pivot of the top gate in its quoin.
The French Horn pub stands by the bridge, north west side. Pewsey itself, 3/4 mile away has plenty more pubs if you want a choice, and shops.
