Pile Railway Bridge
Rowde, Wiltshire KAC56.22

KandAC mile 56
The remains of Pile Railway Bridge; navigation hazards in the canal.
Pile Railway Bridge carried the Berks and Hants Extension Railway, later the Great Western Railway, GWR, which continued the Berks and Hants line from Hungerford along the Kennet Valley and Vale of Pewsey to Devizes, thence connecting to Holt then Bath, etc. There was another extension from a junction at Patney and Chirton, to Westbury, thence to the south west. The route Hungerford to Westbury westwards is still part of the intercity network; this bit is long gone.
The bridge had stone pillars and presumably an iron bridge; 56 miles 22 chains from Reading.
Pillars of the railway bridge left in the canal.
