Semington Aqueduct
Semington and Melksham Without, Wiltshire KAC60.56

KandAC mile 60
The south face of Semington Aqueduct.
The aqueduct carries the canal across the Semington Brook. The brook has been meandering alongside the canal, and is flowing north towards the River Avon.
The aqueduct is built in Bath stone, ashlar stonework, but is much repaired in blue engineering brick. It is 60 miles 56 chains from Reading.

From a boat there is little to see; from the towpath you can lean over and see the Semington Brook - one time I did that I saw a kingfisher flash along the stream.
Detail of the ashlar stonework, Bath stone, in the arch.
The aqueduct carries the full width of the canal plus towpath and an offside path. It used to be obstructed by tank traps. Stone tablets are built into both faces but have apparently never been inscribed.
