Plate 5 scene 1; the English and Spanish fleets off Berry point, Devon, SW wind,
about 1 August 1588, the English in open order chasing the Spanish in crescent
battle formation; two English ships are taking the San Salvador, crippled by an
explosion the day before.

Plate 5 scene 2; 2 August 1588, wind from the north east, off Portland; the
Spanish turn and attack, until the wind changed and the English had the weather
gage again.
|
|
Plate 6 scene 1; 2 August 1588; continuing action off Portland; a fierce action
between Spanish galleasses and the English close to Portland; the main battle
further east.

|
Plate 6 scene 2; 3 August 1588, wind calm to light from the south west; the
English have reformed into four squadrons under Howard, Drake, Frobisher,
Hawkins.

|
The two maps are printed in blue from separate plates, within a decorative
border, printed in black, which includes a portrait of Sir Francis Drake, and a
scene of sailors? being rewarded with booty? and various badges.
