BEAULIEU
Anglo Norman 'lovely place', a name created for the abbey established in 1205. Often appearing in a Latin form, as in the first two examples. Anglicized over the years and still pronounced in the English way. 'The king's' because in the forest and therefore in the king's gift (John's, in this case).
