BEAULIEU
Anglo Norman 'lovely place', a name created for the abbey established in
1205. Often appearing in a Latin form, as in the first two examples. Anglicized
over the years and still pronounced in the English way. 'The king's' because in
the forest and therefore in the king's gift (John's, in this case).
