Self explanatory. Presumably from the soil colour. In this area occur soils of the Bolderwood association, some of which are described as black, and which tend to be marshy. There is a 'Blacklands Farm' in Exbury (1609 'Blakelande') and 'Blackwell Common' is adjacent to Blackfield.
