BURY, farm in Eling
Found in 1518-29 as 'Bery' Middle English 'manor', abbreviating the earlier 1331 'Newton Bury'. The older name is Old English/Middle English 'new farm'; its position on the boundary of Marchwood and Eling testifies to this.
