CLANVILLE, manor in Weyhill
Hypothetical Old English 'Claenefeld'='clear or cleared open land', cf CLANFIELD and further places of the same name in O and in Bishops Waltham (alleged by Ekwall). The name now attaches to 'Clanville Lodge' the former 'Blissmore Hall' (1198 'Besemerishale' 13th century 'Busemerehale' 1648 'Blismerhall' Old English 'nook' at hypothetical 'Beosmere/Beosmersc'='bentgrass pool or marsh'). The 'nook' was presumably the northern end of Weyhill parish (now Penton Grafton).
