COVE, modern parish carved out of Yateley
Old English 'cofa' means at first 'enclosed chamber' and may denote a building of some kind. It develops topographical senses like 'rock hollow, cave, den', etc. later. The application is unclear in the present name; Cove is in what was once open level countryside north-west of Farnborough.
