DANESHILL, district of Basingstoke
A modern name commemorating the battle of Basing, fought unsuccessfully by the West Saxons against the Danes in 871. It is close to LICKPIT/LYCHPIT farm, a site which tradition associates with the burial of corpses from the battle.
