DOGMERSFIELD
Spellings implying both [k] and [g] at the end of the first syllable alternate in the Middle Ages, with 'g' forms coming to predominate in the early-mid 13th century. Old English 'open land at hypothetical 'Doccanmere'' a place name meaning 'dock pool' (from the plant), now lost. The pool mentioned may be an ancestor of Tundry Pond (origin unknown, cf 1629 'Tundry greene'; from medieval French 'tonderie'='sheep- or cloth-shearing workshop'?), but I am not sure what effect the cutting of the Basingstoke Canal has had upon the local hydrology.
In Dogmersfield is 'Ormersfield Farm' which appears to be a deliberate revival of the corrupt Domesday Book spelling for the place name 'Ormeresfelt'.
