ELVETHAM
Hypothetical Old English 'Ylfetahamm'='swans' water meadow'. 'Hamm' here is either in the sense of a waterside meadow or of land between two streams, here a fork of the river Hart. The choice depends on whether the place is named from the site of Elvetham 'Farm' or 'Hall'. I assume the latter, since the church is by the Hall in the fork of the river.
