ENBORNE, river
Hypothetical Old English 'Alorburna'='alder stream'. The name has become
confused (witness the 13th century spellings 'Aleburn, Aneburne') with that of
'Enborne' village 2 miles inside Berkshire, whose name is from hypothetical Old
English 'Enedburna' (1200 'Enedburn')='duck stream' (cf ANDWELL).
