commentary:	84m 21ch from London Waterloo. Opened 29 November 1841, closed 3 December 1841, because of problems with Fareham No.2 Tunnel, reopened 7 February 1842. The original line went to Gosport, but no longer carries passengers. The major route is now the Southampton to Portsmouth line; the Portsmouth line opened 1848; the Southampton line opened 1889.
