FARNBOROUGH
Hypothetical Old English 'Fearnbeorg'='bracken hill', with the second element later reinterpreted as if from 'burh'='fortification, manor, borough'. Farnborough lies on or adjacent to Barton and Bracklesham Sands, the sandy soils encouraging bracken. Cf also the adjacent name 'West Heath'.
