FROXFIELD
Old English 'frogs' open land'. The presence of such a name on high ground a long way from streams is accounted for by the presence of clay-with-flints on the chalk downs here, providing a damp habitat for frogs. Cf 'Frogmore' in adjacent East Meon parish.
