Leland 1535-43 This towne now longgith to the New College in Winchester. It longgid afore to a priorie of religious men in the same toune. Minns says:- Hamble Rice, ... Here was the priory of St. Andrew, a cell to the Benedictines Abbey of Thiron near Chartres. After the suppression of alien priories, William of Wykeham acquired the revenues with which he endowed his two St. Mary Colleges. |
