Coates 1989 HINTON ADMIRAL, in Christchurch East Old English '(aet tham) hean tune'='(at the) high farm', possibly as seen from Burton. It is on ground which falls gently away to the west. The manorial specifier is in fact the surname 'Albemarle'; Reginald de Albemara held the manor in 1242. The modern perversion is first seen in 1592 ('Hynton Admyral'). It is distinguished from HINTON AMPNER and HINTON DAUBNEY. |
