... William, the first Lord Sands, built a curious Chapel on an Hill in this Town [Basingstoke], which he dedicated to the Holy Ghost. Upon the Roof of it the History of the Apostles, Prophets, and Disciples of Christ, is very artificially described. He lies buried in it.

Period - 17th century

On the other side of the Brook, was solitary seated an ancient and fair Chappel, dedicated to the Holy Ghost, in the Roof of which was lively portraied the Prophets, Apostles, and Disciples of Jesus Christ, which said Chappel is now reduced to ruin.
