LISLE COURT, house in Boldre
So called 1759, an antiquarian revival of the name of the family who held it in 1331. The place was earlier 'Sharprix' (in the time of John 'Scherperyxe' 1306 'Scherperishe' 1242 'Sharprixe') hypothetical Old English 'scearpan risce/rixe'='(at the bed of) sharp rushes'.
