KING'S and LITTLE SOMBORNE, two parishes
Old English 'pig stream', a left tributary of the Test. A royal manor before and after 1066, distinguished as 1256 'Kynges-' 1204 'Parva Sunburn''. Higher up the valley is the hamlet of UP SOMBORNE in King's Somborne (1167 'Opsunburna').
