MOCKBEGGAR, a common house/farm name
First found in 1622 in a poem by Taylor the Water Poet as a name for a place where no welcome could be expected. Very fashionable from then onwards, though the names may not have been bestowed with the occupiers' consent. There is one just east of Ibsley, for instance.
