Coates 1989 PIGNAL ENCLOSURE in Denny Old English/Middle English 'pigs' hill'. There is a 'Pig Bush' 5 miles away in the same parish, of particular interest for the adjacent 'Tantany Wood' (thus 1789), which seems to contain a common dialect word for the weakest pig in the litter, but has in fact been reformed from an obscure earlier 1578 'Tantro meade'. |
