commentary: Portsmouth Railway, later LSWR, from Goldalming, Surrey, to LBSCR at Havant, Hampshire, authorized 8 July 1853, opened Woking to Guildford 5 May 1845, to Godalming 15 October 1849, to Havant 1 January 1859; Havant to Portsmouth had opened 14 June 1847. NB only parts in Hampshire described below.
