POSBROOK, farms in Titchfield
Possibly hypothetical Old English 'Possanbroc'='Possa's brook or watermeadow'. The man's name 'Possa' is not known for certain to have existed, but may also be found in eg 'Postwick' (Norfolk). ('Pusa' and 'Passa' are actually found.) The farms lie low beside the smaller channel of Titchfield Haven; though perhaps the sense of 'broc' typical in Sussex, 'land beside a stream, watermeadow' is intended.
