ROTHERFIELD PARK, in East Tisted
Hypothetical Old English 'hrytherafeld'='open land of cattle'. The tradition with medial 's' is peculiar and unexplained; all spellings between 1165 and 1207 have it, and it may have been a clerical error that was perpetuated in later documents. As to the 'park' there is a reference to 'the park pale' in 1564.
