RUFUS STONE or RUFUS'S STONE near Canterton
Marks the traditional site of the death in 1099 of William II (Rufus) in the New Forest; or rather the site of the tree from which Walter Tyrrell's arrow is supposed to have been deflected into the king. Lord de la Warr placed the stone here in 1745.
