... Peter de Rupibus, Bishop of Winchester, founded a Monastery of Canons Regular of St. Augustine in King Henry III.'s Reign.
Seleburn, a Monastery for Canons Regular of St. Augustine, founded by Peter de la Roche, Bishop of Winchester, and endowed by him with divers Lands and Charities, allowing to the Vicars of them sufficient Maintenance. The Presentation of the Vicarages to belong to the Prior and Canons. Valued at 337 l. 15 s. 6 d. ob. per Annum, Godw.

WAS founded by Peter de Rupibus, Bishop of Winchester, under the Invocation of St. Mary, conferring on it the Churches of Seleburn, Basing, and Basingstoke, with all their Appurtenances and several other Possessions, saving to the Vicars of those Churches, to be presented by the Prior, a competent Maintenance. He directed that the Rule of St. Augustine should be there observ'd for ever, and that it should never become subject to any other House; saving in all things the Episcopal Authority, and the Dignity of the Church of Winchester.
