SHEET, modern parish carved out of Petersfield
Old English 'sciete'='corner, nook', a derivative of 'sceat' well evidenced
in place names. Sheet is in the angle between two headwaters of the river
western Rother, and Sheet Common constituted the north-eastern corner of
Petersfield parish, surrounded by woodland into the 20th century.
