However names of this type are always suspicious; does the dedication cloak, and canonize, an earlier place name? 'St Ann's Hill' above Allington (Wiltshire) was earlier 'Tan Hill'. Cf also CATHERINGTON. This name recurs in Hurn, but the earlier records testify to a ford (1316 'Catelineford').
