ST MARY BOURNE
Old English 'burna'='stream', ie: the BOURNE RIVULET, whose name perpetuates the ancient one. The place was a chapelry of Hurstbourne Priors, and the presumable early dedication is recorded in 1476 'Maryborne' 1483 'Borne S(an)c(t)e Marie'. The present church is dedicated to St Peter and the date of the rededication is unknown.

description
Bourne
The place is described in text Cobbett 1830

refce: Cobbett 1830
.. at a short distance from Uphusband, down the valley, I went through a village called Bourne, which takes its name from the water that runs down this valley. ...
...
The little village of Bourne, therefore, takes its name from its situation.
