WOLVERTON
Old English 'Wulfhere's farm'. The absence of medial '-s' is curious, but with parallels elsewhere (eg AWBRIDGE and 'Edgarley' (Somerset) but mainly in the North Country and Midlands). Some forms suggest the synonymous hypothetical Old English 'Wulfheringtun' (1248 'Wlfrincton') but they are all of the 13th century. The spellings do not strongly suggest the female name 'Wulfrun' instead.
