Bridges

Morden's map of Hampshire shows a number of bridges over rivers; at eight places by double lines over the river, and at four by gaps in the river's course. At Winchester the whole city is drawn across the river Itchen. Morden includes all the crossing places shown by Norden, except two at Fareham. Morden's rivers are very similar to those shown by Norden.

He adds two more; Warmansbridge across the Meon which is the only bridge labelled, and High Bridge which takes a road across the Itchen.

Several of Morden's roads cross a river without a bridge being drawn, for example near Sheate where the Ogilby route actually mentions a stone bridge. Morden might be taking a bridge for granted, or there may be a practical reason, the thinking is tentative:-

We don't know how much was planned before being engraved, but at Kings Somborne it seems the place name was engraved after the river had been drawn; and at Yately the road had to be interrupted because the place name was already written. Looking closely at the engraving of the map it looks as if roads were drawn after the rivers; having drawn the river it is not easy to make a gap to show a bridge.
