London. Pubd. Feby. 1st. 1832 by Nichols & Son, 25 Parliament Street.

The map has no scale line. Estimating from town to town distances, using DISTTAB.exe software, gives a scale 1 to 1185895. The map scale is about:-
1 to 1200000
18.5 miles to 1 inch.

orientation
north point

Printed lower right is a north point; and an E-W line, N marked by an arrow and a cross (X). The map is printed with North at the top of the page.

sea plain

The sea is plain; some sea areas are labelled, eg:-
ENGLISH CHANNEL
Southampton Water
Spithead

coast line
coast form lines
harbours

The coast line is emphasised by one or two form lines.
Portsmouth, Langstone and other harbours can be recognised but are not labelled.

coastal defence

Only one of the coastal defence castles is shown, labelled:-

rivers
Rivers are drawn by a fine wiggly line. Some rivers are labelled, eg:-
Test R.
Itching R. The River Test is shown with some tributaries; the Dun? but not the Wallop, the Bourne Rivulet and the Dever, but not the upper branch of the river through Whitchurch. The Enborne, Loddon system, Rother ... are missed.

relief
No relief is shown by the map.

parks
It is not clear, but a few patches of 'dotting' are probably meant to represent parks. A less doubtful example by Odiham is most likely Dogmersfield Park.

county
The county boundary is a dashed line. Adjacent counties are labelled, eg:-
DORSET SH.
The detached part of Hampshire in Sussex is shown, labelled:-
Part of Hants.
A few places outside the county are shown for the sake of continuity of the roads: Farnham, Ludgershall, Newbury.

settlements
distances from Southampton

Settlements are marked by a few blocks, mostly on roads; they are differentiated by lettering style.
Numbers are given alongside the town names:-
The figures show the distances from Southampton
not from London, as is more usual.
city     group of blocks on roads; labelled in upright block caps:-
WINCHESTER
town     group of blocks on road; labelled in upright lowercase text, eg:-
Alton
Andover

Christ Church
is spelled in an older manner.
village     small group of blocks; labelled in italic lowercase text, eg:-
Weyhill
Highclere

roads
A comprehensive network of main roads (for this scale of map) is drawn, by double lines.
Destinations of roads outwith the county are generally given, eg:-
to London
to Amesbury

canals
Canals are not labelled, so are not very obvious, but if you know where to look it is clear that they are shown, using a bolder less wiggly line than rivers. Interpreting what is what is less certain:-
Andover Canal     clear; from Redbridge to Andover, following the Test Valley.

Salisbury Canal     clear; a straight canal from the Salisbury direction, along the Dun Valley, joining the Andover Canal.

Basingstoke Canal     clear; from Basingstoke eastward to the county boundary, with the 'loop', and the branch to Stratfield Turgis that was never cut.

Itchen Navigation     less clear; the lower part of the Itchen is drawn with two strands, one is the navigation?

Titchfield Canal     unclear; two strands of the Meon are drawn, one is the canal?
