sea
coast line
The county of Hampshire is bounded on the south by the sea. This boundary does not change much with changes of local or national politics! but it is subject to change by nature. Rivers, the sea, and winds change the shape of the land; sometimes slowly, sometimes suddenly and dramatically.

On Thomas Kitchin's map the sea is plain. Some sea areas are labelled, eg:
Haling Bay
Spit Head
ENGLISH CHANNEL
The coast is drawn with form lines, continued into harbours and river estuaries. Some harbours are labelled, eg:
Langston Harbour
Lymington Hav.
Christ Church Harb.
but not Portsmouth Harbour!
