MILE 58 Seend, Wiltshire : KAC58.00=KAC59.00

KandAC mile 58
KandAC mile 58 - OS 1inch map, early 19th century.
... down five small locks, sinking lower into the Avon Valley ...
The Kennet and Avon Canal from mile 58 to mile 59 continues down the Seend Flight of Locks, passing Seend Cleeve. The towpath is on the north side.
The outflow from the Seend locks back pumping feeds the pound above Seend Top Lock, fairly discreetly, well ...
Seend Top Lock, Seend
Pile Farm lies a furlong up the road to the north.
Seend Selver Bridge, Seend
Cattle; friesian bullocks; and some sepia toned friesian bullocks.

Barge Inn, Seend
The village to the south is Seend Cleeve. There's another pub there, the Brewery Inn. The farm to the south is Park Farm , referring to Seend Park.
Boats crowding the water opposite the Barge Inn; never seen it so busy.
The stone building with a tiled roof, westward of the barge Inn, is a lengthsman's cottage, now a private house fronting onto the canal.
Lengthsman's cottage at Seend; not ashlar stonework!

The canal eastward of Seend Bottom Lock, lock 17, looking westward.
Seend Bottom Lock, Seend
Intake for water to pump from below Seend Bottom Lock to above Seend Top Lock.
Seend Flight pump; I cannot imagine tourists in the future being shown round this efficient pump like they are shown round Claverton and Crofton today.
There is mooring along here.
BWB's mooring sign west of Seend Bottom Lock.
Branched bur reed, Sparganum erectum, how pretty.
