LEWIS'S ELECTORAL MAP of HAMPSHIRE was published as plate LXXVII in vol.5, a supplementary volume to the 3rd edition of Lewis's Topographical Dictionary. The map studied is in the Map Collection, Hampshire CC Museums Service, item FA2000.30.77.
The map size is:- wxh, sheet = 25x32cm; wxh, map = 179x249 mm.

The county boundary is a dash dot line tinted pink, or pinkish red. The map includes Hampshire with the Christchurch area that is now in Dorset, and the Isle of Wight. The detached part of Hampshire is Sussex is not shown. Adjacent counties are not labelled.

The hundred boundaries are fine dotted lines. The hundred areas are labelled, eg:-
Odiham Hundred
Labelling is missing in some detached parts of hundreds, otherwise the part is labelled just as the hundred itself. There are occasional boundary errors; the boundary between Overton and part of Chutely hundreds is missing, a boundary is drawn dividing Holdshott into two. The hundred's 'shapes' have not been checked.

Not many settlements are shown; city, towns, and a very few villages. Except where marked by an electoral data symbol they are marked by a small cluster of blocks or just a cross.

ELECTORAL DATA

The purpose of the map is to show the electoral arrangements for the county which came into force after the first Parliamentary reforms, the Reform Act 1832. (The related plans of boroughs in the Lewis's atlas presumably show the results of the Municipal Reform Act 1835.)
