Bridges
|
Norden's map of Hampshire shows some bridges clearly marked by
double lines over a river; bridges are not shown in other places
where they might be expected. There does not seem to be a clear
policy for showing bridges. Although roads are not indicated,
the presence of bridges suggests some routes.
At Winchester the whole city is drawn across the river Itchen;
two braids of the river emerge from under arches in the town
wall.
None of the marked bridges are labelled; but he does
label Warmansbri in the wrong place, with no
bridge drawn.
At Fareham it is not clear whether Wallington bridge or the lower crossing of the Wallington River is shown.
